Around 60 villages in the Syunik Region have fewer than 100 residents. The population in these villages continues to decrease each year.
In Chapni, the trend is different. Since 2019, Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine has been providing financial support to Chapni residents due to the presence of the Artsvanik tailings dam in the village. As a result, Chapni has become one of the few villages in Syunik where the population is increasing rather than decreasing.
According to official data from last year, Chapni had 91 residents. Now, the actual population has grown to over 100.
