Our Projects
The uncertain future of the forgotten villages in Vayots Dzor
We visited the Vayots Dzor villages with fewer than 100 inhabitants, conducted an inventory, explored their locations and features, infrastructure, and residents' daily lives. Additionally, we tried to understand whether these villages are being considered for the possible resettlement of Artsakh residents and what measures are being taken in that regard.
WikiGraphers: Visualizing Free Knowledge
In the current visual era of people perceiving information through images, there is a need to "package" knowledge tailored to the demands and requirements of the time. Illustrations, infographics, animations, and maps are means of making extensive information more comprehensive for everyone. Hetq Media Factory pursuing the goal of promoting the creation and dissemination of free knowledge has launched a project to visualize Armenian Wikipedia articles. Through the project, the participants will learn modern visualization tools to present the content of the largest online encyclopedia to readers in a more comprehensive way. The project is supported by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Getting to Know the Audience and Organizing Crowdfunding Campaign
Within the framework of the project, an initiative of getting to know the reader of Hetq and Hetq Media Factory and the fundraising campaign were organized. Subsequently, with the readers’ support, the Hetq Media Factory team conducted an investigation into labor rights. The project was implemented under the grant awarded by the Media Initiatives Center.
Environmental Issues of Lake Sevan: An Interactive Storymap
Hetq Media Factory students and faculty jointly studied the eutrophication problems of Lake Sevan presenting the findings on the water quality of rivers running into the lake, and stories of socio-economic life through the interactive map. A drone footage-based data was used to illustrate household and economic waste piles around the lake on the map. The project was prepared in cooperation with the US Embassy and the Heinrich Boell Foundation Yerevan Office - South Caucasus Region.
Corruption Reporting Evening School
Recognizing the need of importance of raising awareness on corruption, Hetq Media Factory implemented the Corruption Reporting Evening School project aimed at establishing a collaborative environment in which journalists, civil society representatives, and public decision-makers studied together corruption as a phenomenon, its manifestations, and risks, as well as anti-corruption mechanisms. Knowledge acquired at the training course was put into practice - the course participants wrote investigative articles. The project was supported by the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
